Royal Plantation Ocho Rios Named Caribbean's Leading Honeymoon Resort at 2009 World Travel Awards

(LONDON) – Royal Plantation Ocho Rios was awarded the Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Resort at the 2009 World Travel Awards in London on November 7, 2009. World Travel Award Honorees are selected by top travel agents from more than 160 countries around the world. More than 3000 travel companies were nominated in over 200 categories at the prestigious ceremony, now in its sixteenth year.

“Couples honeymooning at Royal Plantation Ocho Rios are seeking the ultimate in relaxation. Our beautiful hideaway, along with our superior level of service, allows couples to fully enjoy this special time together,” says General Manager Peter Fraser. “Whether partaking in one of our private cooking classes or a couple’s treatment at the Red Lane® Spa, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios provides a personalized experience that ensures each couple has an unforgettable honeymoon. We are deeply honored that the World Travel Awards has recognized us for this strength.”

Royal Plantation Ocho Rios’ history of first-class service and incomparable amenities has made the resort a favorite retreat for honeymooners since the 1950s. While the resort’s traditional British Colonial style and charm was carefully preserved, its facilities and services were considerably upgraded in 2004, following a multi-million dollar renovation to welcome a new generation of travelers. Restored to its former glory as one of the most elegant beach boutique resorts in Jamaica, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica’s only member of the Leading Small Hotels of the World, is comprised of 17 manicured acres, 74 all-ocean view suites and the private Villa Plantana, a 3,000 square-foot, three-bedroom villa with a private pool and dedicated household staff.

Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica Recognized On The 2008 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Service List

Ocho Rios, Jamaica, May 22, 2008 – Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica has been named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Service List for 2008. Ranking seventh among the top ten Bermuda, Bahamas and Caribbean resorts, Royal Plantation earns esteemed recognition for exacting and warm Jamaican-style service. That outstanding level of service extends throughout the resort’s 74 oceanfront suites, world-class dining outlets, the Red Lane Spa and two private north coast beaches.

Each year, Travel + Leisure polls its subscription base of nearly one million of the world’s most discerning and intrepid travelers to rank elite hotels and resorts across the globe. The final collection of winners, spanning a variety of niche categories including Best Service, represents the very highest echelon of premier, once-in-a-lifetime travel destinations. Royal Plantation’s inclusion on the World’s Best Service list represents a true testament to the continued excellence of the Royal Plantation experience from start to finish.

“For us, service is an avocation, not a career,” says Royal Plantation Managing Director Jaime Stewart-McConnell. “We do everything in our power to ensure we provide only the very best services for our guests, and to have a respected authority such as Travel + Leisure bestow on the resort such an honor speaks to Royal Plantation’s commitment to exceptional service.

Under Stewart’s direction, Royal Plantation has transformed into an award winning, luxury-market darling, with a highly trained, familial staff as the secret to their success. “Our signature beach butler service, pillow menu, and the art of sabrage at C Bar Champagne and Caviar Bar are but a few of the special touches that create the truly unique Royal Plantation experience. We call it a Jamaican je ne sais quoi, from the heart. It’s passion and spirit that make guests feel special.”

A member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World and a Virtuoso Luxury Property, Royal Plantation, Ocho Rios was chosen by Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards as a Top Caribbean Resort for 2007. The stylish, boutique property pampers guests with 74 chic, ocean-view suites, an extraordinary private villa, impeccable service and two private beaches in Jamaica’s most breathtaking setting. On-site extras include cooking classes to artist in residence painting lessons, the Red Lane Spa, Jamaica’s only Leading Spa of the World, myriad dining options and the Caribbean’s only Champagne and caviar bar, C-Bar.

Royal Plantation Island, Exumas, Bahamas - the Latest and Greatest News

When the Stewart family discovered Royal Plantation Island for themselves in 2007, they were committed to revealing the well-kept secret to the lucky few. Maintaining the exclusive, private-island feel while enhancing the resort's offerings to reach Royal Plantation standards, sumptuous upgrades are underway:

It Takes a Villa: 2008 will mark the groundbreaking of fifteen additional villas on Royal Plantation's uninhabited east end, for a total of 21 villa accommodations. The seasoned construction team will adhere to a sound method of unobtrusive and environmentally sensitive expansion, with the finished product melding seamlessly into the unspoiled nature of the island. The completion of these villas, slated for Fall 2009, will mark the official completion of new development on the island.

Connectivity: Be a connected castaway at Royal Plantation Island this fall, as the entire island gets outfitted for free, high-speed wi-fi Internet. The staff has vowed to enforce a strict, only-once-a-day email diet, but will allow special exceptions. Hopefully, the relaxing properties of the island may soon make you forget that "the office" even exists.

Barefoot Beach Bar & Grille: The newest dining outlet to be added to the Royal Plantation Island roster will not really be a restaurant at all. With a mahogany, open-air custom-made grill, the Barefoot bar & grill will open this year on the island's South Beach. So, come lunch and dinnertime, there will be a toes-in-the-sand dining option for guests who are feeling casual and in the mood for a taste of traditional Bahamian barbecue. On cool Bahamian nights, fire pits and cabanas keep revelers cozy, with the sunset over the Atlantic providing the restaurant's focal design point.

Red Lane Spa: Soon to come to Royal Plantation Island is a brand-new Red Lane Spa that will reflect the laid-back luxury and elegance of the 50-acre private getaway in the heart of the Bahamas. According to Royal Plantation Collection Managing Director Jaime Stewart-McConnell, the spa will be "intimate and open to the natural beauty of the island." In the spirit of painstakingly preserving the spectacular natural beauty and unspoiled character of the island, the construction will be low-impact and as "green" as possible. The treatments offered will be based on the Red Lane Spa signature services, with the addition of novel Bahamian-inspired scrubs, wraps, and facials to the menu. The Red Lane Spa will also add a second freshwater pool to the island, where guests can relax and soak up the Bahamian sun.

Beautiful & Unassuming: Run by dedicated environmentalists, Royal Plantation Island maintains its ecological responsibility in limiting the resort's impact on carbon production and use of fossil fuel. Tricycles are being encouraged as an alternative to golf cart transportation. Other alternative-energy plans in the pipeline include the installation of a wind turbine for the island, solar-powered water heaters for all the villas, and, according to Managing Director Jaime Stewart-McConnell, strategy is underway to harness the power of the tides. "The water that comes through the Fowl Cay Cut, the small gap near the boat landing, really rushes when the tide changes; so we are going to try to generate power from that," says Stewart-McConnell.

Since its inception as Royal Plantation Island in 2007, the on-island generator's fuel consumption has been successfully reduced by thirty per cent.

Royal Plantation Ocho Rios’ history of first-class service and incomparable amenities has made the resort a favorite retreat for discerning guests since the 1950s. Formerly known as the Plantation Inn, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios was recognized for its long-standing Hollywood glamour as well as housing members of the British Royal Family, Sir Winston Churchill and acclaimed authors Noel Coward and Ian Fleming of James Bond fame. The resort’s traditional British Colonial style and charm was carefully preserved, while its facilities and services were considerably upgraded again in 2004, following a multi-million dollar renovation to welcome a new generation of travelers. In the 2009 World Travel Awards, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios was named the leading resort in both Jamaica and the Caribbean.

The rankings are derived from the Travel+Leisure Readers’ Choice Survey asking readers to select their favorite hotels, spas, airlines, cruise lines, outfitters, cities and islands around the globe. Royal Plantation Ocho Rios received a score of 88.50 (out of a possible 100) in the survey.

The Crown Jewel of the Stewart Family Empire: Royal Plantation Collection

Having lived, traveled and built a hospitality empire across the Caribbean over the last several decades, the Stewart family periodically discovered the most spectacular pieces of real estate the islands have hidden. Expanding upon their revolutionary concept of the flawless Caribbean vacation, the family ultimately formed these scattered jewels of land into the Royal Plantation Collection, a brand of intimate boutique resorts in unparalleled locales, offering unparalleled service. Currently consisting of the flagship Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica; the new Royal Plantation Island, Exumas, Bahamas; and Royal Plantation Private Villas in Jamaica; development continues on additional resort properties in Bloody Bay and Dragon Bay, Jamaica and the Turks & Caicos. Each property within the Collection envelops guests in a sense of place, infusing each rich, local culture into every element of the experience, while offering the utmost in impeccable service that defines Royal Plantation. Design features adopt each destination's respective aesthetic, under the tasteful mark of Sandals Resorts Chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart's daughter, Royal Plantation Collection Brand Director Jaime Stewart-McConnell. Over the course of his illustrious, thirty-year career in hospitality, Sandals Resorts Chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart has stocked shelves with industry awards from professionals, peers and guests. Craving a new challenge, Stewart leaped at the opportunity to purchase the aging, but legendary Plantation Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in 2000. An intimate, elegant boutique was born, and over the last eight years, the formula for authentic character and impeccable, personal service was perfected to give way to Royal Plantation Collection. The Collection has expanded with the Stewart family's intrepid exploration of the Caribbean, and the formula now applies to the new Royal Plantation Island, located in the Exumas, Bahamas and the converted private beach estates, Royal Plantation Private Villas. Royal Plantation Ocho Rios prides itself on its high number of repeat guests. "For us, service is an avocation, not a career," says, Managing Director Jaime Stewart-McConnell. They have turned Royal Plantation into an award-winning, luxury-market darling, citing the highly trained, familial staff as the secret to their success. "We call it a Jamaican je ne sais quoi, from the heart. It's passion and spirit that make guests feel special."

A few hundred miles to the east, the largely untouched, barefoot-casual 50-acre Royal Plantation Island, offers a completely distinct experience from that of the British colonial-style Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, but what remains consistent is the high standard of excellence. Despite its remote privacy, the Royal Plantation credo is perfectly echoed at Royal Plantation Island, according to Jaime: "The simplest answer to any quest request is yes - no matter what. We do summersaults to fulfill our guests desires even the most outrageous requests are executed to perfection, so long as we're given a little notice to prepare!" The newest entrée into the Royal Plantation Portfolio consists of Royal Plantation Private Villas. Each of the villas come fresh off a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2008 and provides supreme privacy and luxe comfort set against the beauty of Jamaica's verdant land- and seascapes. Originally hand-selected as private residences by the discerning Chairman, requirements included the most pristine private beaches and views to send the heart soaring. Says Jaime, "My dad is Jamaican born and bred. Being raised on a beach himself naturally instilled in him a passion for crystal waters and perfect beaches. He has the most discerning standards when it comes to looking for flawless beaches located on only the best properties to invest in." In Jaime Stewart's words, the evolution by which Royal Plantation came to be is simple: "Whenever we come across the most incredible real estate, when we find the most magical location, immediately it becomes a Royal Plantation, and what was once my family's best-kept secret becomes our personal invitation to travelers to come experience the real Caribbean, in the real Royal Plantation way."

Welcome Home: Royal Plantation Private Villas from one family to another, in the lap of private luxury

The owners of Royal Plantation Collection, the Stewart family, are pleased to introduce three of their very own Jamaican vacation villas to the brand's expanding portfolio. The Collection currently includes Royal Plantation, a British colonial-style, all-suite boutique resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Royal Plantation Island, a secluded private island in the Exumas, Bahamas. Soon to come are developments in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos. The private villas, lovingly discovered and cared for by the Stewart family for two decades, have all recently undergone multi-million-dollar renovations completed in early 2008, and each comes complete with a private staff, including a chef, butler and housekeeper. Each of the villas lie directly on private beaches, offering guests the ultimate Caribbean vacation experience.

As Brand Director of Royal Plantation Collection, Jaime Stewart-McConnell, daughter of Sandals Resorts Chairman and Founder Gordon "Butch" Stewart, revels in the uncommon marriage of comfort and elegance. "Each of our homes was carefully selected and carefully designed to showcase all that we love about Jamaica. Outdoors, that's pristine private beaches and astounding views, and indoors it's cool colors and rich, yummy linens and mahogany accents. My dad is Jamaican, born and bred on the beach - he knows where to find the absolute best spots this island has hidden!"

The seven-bedroom Sundown Villa, located in Christopher Columbus' landing spot, Discovery Bay, served as the family's holiday home when the now-senior executives were small children. Jamaicans liken the region to the south of France, an enclave where the island's most exquisite, fully staffed homes are sprinkled along the coast. The Villas also include Lime-Acre, a former lime plantation on the south coast in Whitehouse, which comprises a three-bedroom main house and two-bedroom guest cottage set on expanse of verdant landscape dripping in lush tropical botanicals and steeped in an old-fashioned country vibe.

The grand dame of the family's collection, Rio Chico, stretches across 14 acres on the north coast of Ocho Rios, a celebrity favorite that truly transports the lucky few to a quiet island wonderland. Beyond the magnificence that meets the eye upon the arrival, which includes cascading waterfalls, trickling rivers and streams, a brilliant green landscape and bursting botanicals outdoors, as well as and a full staff, chef and luxe interiors indoors, the intangible vibe of Rio Chico gets into one's soul. The villa features a six bedroom Greathouse, plus a two-bedroom guest cottage, and two sparkling freshwater pools.

The site of Jaime's 2006 wedding and years of rousing family memories over the years, the estate comes with that priceless feeling of contentment so rare the world over.

Gordon "Butch" Stewart's Hospitality Empire is a Family Affair

Over the course of more than two decades, Gordon "Butch" Stewart has come to be known simply as "the Chairman" by all his employees at Sandals Resorts & Beaches Resorts, which includes his adult children, Adam, CEO of Sandals Resorts International, and Jaime, Managing Director of the Royal Plantation Collection. Since founding the global brand in 1981, the Chairman has built a billion-dollar empire of 22 properties spanning five countries.

The second-generation Jamaican was born in Kingston, Jamaica on July 6, 1941, the son of the chief engineer at the country's radio and television station. Instilled with the strong Jamaican work ethic from an early age, the Chairman was a born entrepreneur, saving up to buy a boat as a young boy. Stewart earned money by selling his daily catch to local hotels and transporting the vacationing glitterati in his boat, including once, as he'll never forget, a topless Joan Collins. At the age of twelve, Stewart talked his way onto the set of the James Bond film, Dr. No, ferrying crewmembers between the film's Caribbean locations. The magic mix of industriousness and a flair for the dramatic had planted their early seeds.

As a young adult, Stewart began Appliance Traders Limited, making his fortune importing electrical amenities to his island nation. However, his childhood memories of genteel colonial hospitality and luxury kept his dream of founding a tourism business alive. Therefore, he jumped at the opportunity to purchase a rundown property on the north coast of Jamaica in 1981. Stewart gave the site a massive upgrade and named it Sandals Montego Bay, springing to life what would become a multi-generational endeavor setting the gold standard for romantic, luxury and family vacations in his beloved Jamaica and beyond.

It was in 2001 that the Royal Plantation concept of boutique resorts in exclusive destinations was born, expanding on the popular all-inclusive model at Sandals. That year, the Chairman purchased the once-legendary Plantation Inn in his native Ocho Rios: a grand, circa-1957 gem that had once catered to guests like Noel Coward, Winston Churchill and the British Royal Family but that had lost a bit of its original luster. The energy remained in the skeleton, however, and the family set about restoring its grandeur as the gloriously reborn Royal Plantation.

Now, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios serves as the revered flagship of the burgeoning Royal Plantation Collection, joined by the new Royal Plantation Island, Exumas, Bahamas and the completely refurbished Royal Plantation Private Villas. Development is currently underway in Bloody Bay and Dragon Bay, Jamaica and in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos. This small group within the empire represents the most breathtaking destinations, so the apple of the Chairman's eye, eldest daughter Jaime, was the natural choice to lead the brand's success as Managing Director. For the past few years, young Jaime Stewart has worked in concert with her father and Royal Plantation is once again a five-star property.

Jaime is in good company, working with brother Bobby, also a Sandals executive, with their younger brother, Adam, who the Chairman appointed CEO in 2007 at the age of 26. All of Stewart's elder children have passed through the family-business ranks, making dad seriously proud. "They are all remarkable young professionals," the Chairman says about his brood. Artist PJ Foxley-Norris, Jaime and Adam's mother, even lends a hand to the business, providing much of the artwork throughout Royal Plantation and conducting periodic painting classes for guests.

Your Own Private Bahamian Island: Royal Plantation Island, Exumas, Bahamas is the New Home of Effortless Exclusivity

The spectrum of blue surrounding Royal Plantation Island, located in the Exumas, Bahamas is mind-boggling. Existing adjectives - turquoise, cerulean, ice-blue fall short to describe the waters of this spectacular destination.

The creation of Royal Plantation Island is a classic Gordon "Butch" Stewart tale. In the spring of 2007, the Sandals Resorts Chairman was visiting the Bahamas when a sailing buddy told him he really ought to check out Fowl Cay, a private, 50-acre island with six one, two-and three-bedroom villas, and not much else - save the natural beauty of the setting, glorious private beaches, views, and the serene sound of the ocean.

Mr. Stewart was immediately swept off his feet by the thoroughly elegant, yet unspoiled island. Thought it was not for sale, he had to at least try. He made an offer before his vacation had ended, thereby adding the island to the family's new Royal Plantation Collection. Characterized as a selectively acquired group of breathtaking destinations, coupled with premier accommodations, impeccable service, and gourmet, indigenous cuisine, the Royal Plantation Collection is led by Mr. Stewart's daughter, Jaime Stewart-McConnell. Royal Plantation Island joins sister property and flagship, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to create the group of indigenously inspired Caribbean boutique properties. Plans for expansion of the Royal Plantation Collection include additional resorts in Turks & Caicos, Bloody Bay, Jamaica and Dragon Bay, Jamaica; as well as the Royal Plantation Private Villas, a collection of four lavish villas in Jamaica's most secluded locales.

The first priority for creating a flawless resort was establishing strong management. Enter the Huggins family. Years before, General Manager Steve Huggins and his wife Julie served as yacht managers, running operations on Mr. Stewart's own 134-ft. luxury yacht, the Lady Sandals. They returned to Australia upon the birth of their twin son and daughter, but jumped at the chance to manage Royal Plantation Island.

Jaime has led the refurbishment of all six villas at Royal Plantation Island in the signature Royal Plantation style. Each villa comes complete with a small motorboat, so guests can while away the day exploring the untouched beaches on surrounding cays and gliding across the crystal clear sparkling water. The latest additions to arrive on-island, as it gets fully outfitted, include bright-colored beach cruiser bicycles for tooling around to the heart's content. Most recently, a beautifully rustic wedding pavilion was constructed on the north side of the island, in quite possibly the world's most unspoiled and sublime place to tie the knot. The four-pillar, bougainvillea-draped gate to paradise will soon feature dedicated packages created by celebrated wedding planner Preston Bailey.

While Royal Plantation Ocho Rios embodies the British colonial style of luxe Jamaica, Royal Plantation Island is its own barefoot crash pad for the very lucky. As Jaime Stewart says, "Royal Plantation Island is just different. Besides being the most perfect little gem, in the most breathtaking locale, it's got charm. Here, things are spectacular, yet simple. It's exclusive, but casual. The answer to any question at Royal Plantation is 'yes!' and we just hope that our guests will truly love it as our own family does."

Hot Days at the Beach Call for a Hot Drink

At Royal Plantation, Guests Enjoy a Locally Grown Treat...Hot Chocolate

New York, NY, December 14, 2005

The hottest drink at the five-star, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica, comes served in a simple enamel cup. It's hot chocolate, made from fresh cocoa grown locally, just a few miles away from the hotel, and carefully prepared and served up every Friday morning, as an alternative pick-me-up treat for guests.

"Hot chocolate isn't the first thing you think of sipping after a dip in the ocean or a walk on the beach, but we find it to be the perfect alternative delight for our guests," said Jaime Stewart, managing director of Royal Plantation. "This service is a way for us to showcase something special and indigenous to Jamaica, giving our guests a true taste of this special place they are visiting."

Served on Friday's on an elevated terrace overlooking one of Royal Plantation's two private beaches, hot chocolate service begins long before the cups are laid out. Outside of growing the cocoa trees on property, Royal Plantation staffers prepare every other step in the process from cocoa pods to hot chocolate in the cup. First, they select the finest pods, and then the interior seeds or beans are extracted for fermentation, roasting and drying.

Once prepped, the cocoa is grated, and then it is boiled with water and coconut milk. Locally grown cinnamon is added to the mixture, making a truly traditional delicacy and giving guests the opportunity to sample something important to the Jamaican culture. Guests can add more coconut milk, sugar or other traditional hot-chocolate toppers and enjoy a piece of hardo-a simple, hard-dough bread consisting of flour, salt and yeast. And as the name suggests, this rustic loaf is a little heavier than other breads.

Marjorie Parkin, who has been making hot chocolate since her childhood, is responsible for preparing and serving the cocoa at Royal Plantation. Parkin also shares with guests some of the legend and lore surrounding this crop.

Grown predominantly along the equator, the crop only thrives on a few Caribbean Islands. The trees require shade, heat and rain- just what Jamaica's Blue Mountains provide.+

Jamaican cocoa is highly prized in the international market as it comes from the Criollo variety of tree, which thanks to its superior flavor and quality, is known as the "prince of cocoas". Legend has it that while in Jamaica in the Seventeenth Century, Sir Hans Sloane tinkered with the local methods of drinking cocoa by mixing it with milk. Upon returning to England, he had his milk chocolate manufactured first for apothecaries, and later Cadbury was inspired by his recipe.

Today at Royal Plantation, Jamaican hot chocolate provides a nice accompaniment to breakfast and is a great way for guest's to jump-start the day.

Beyond Bubbles: The Exquisite Art of Sabrage Now at Royal Plantation

A Series of Special Gourmet Dining Experiences Uncorking This Winter

New York, NY, November 28, 2005

C-Bar, the Caribbean's only caviar and champagne bar, located in Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica, a Leading Small Hotel of the World, announces a new experience for guests: decadent dinners devised around the art of sabrage. Beginning this holiday season, visitors can enjoy a gourmet, five-course meal that begins with champagne served from expertly sabred bottles. Visitors will enjoy watching their server expertly wield a sabre, slide it down the bottle's neck and cautiously yet confidently slice off the lip of the champagne bottle to remove the cork.

Royal Plantation will begin presenting these extraordinary private sabrage dinners in December, and will continue to offer them through the spring and summer season, starting at $185 per person.

Sabrage will be the highlight of the champagne and caviar reception that preludes the fine dining experience guests will enjoy dining at Le Papillon, Royal Plantation's gourmet restaurant set adjacent to the chic C-Bar lounge. This spectacular sight can be matched only by the taste of Kaviari, the Iranian caviar served exclusively at Royal Plantation, and the island-infused dishes individually customized and created by executive chef Dennis McIntosh and his team. Each gourmet course of seasonal specialties prepared with Caribbean flair is specifically designed to accompany the flavor of three fine champagnes being served during the experience.

Vincenzo Calcerano, Royal Plantation's very own Master Sommelier, is extremely proud to bring sabrage to Royal Plantation. "This exciting new addition to our dining repertoire combines customs from Napoleonic times with contemporary gourmet cuisine," stated Calcerano. "Anyone who chooses to partake in these exquisite evenings will surely be impressed by the magic and elegance of sabrage."

A time-honored tradition, sabrage dates back to the days of Napoleon. According to legend, sabrage started when cavalry officers in the French Army leaving the parties of Madame Clicquot, could not open their bottles of champagne on horseback. In order to solve this dilemma, the soldiers would draw their sabres and behead the bottles with one swift stroke of the thin, sharp blade. Visitors to Royal Plantation can now witness this age-old custom come to life while sipping from a flute some of the most exquisite champagne and enjoying a finely prepared meal. The art of sabrage is arranged for a minimum of two persons and is the perfect complement to a gourmet meal at Royal Plantation. Whether marking a special occasion or capping off an exceptional vacation, this exciting experience is just another way that Royal Plantation is singling itself out as a premiere, world-class resort.

According to Jaime Stewart, Managing Director for Royal Plantation, the most dramatic change will be the introduction of a choice of stay options – a traditional European Plan (EP) and a new all-inclusive Royal Plan.

“This is an exciting development [for Royal Plantation], and one that we know will be welcomed by the agent community, whose luxury clientele has demonstrated a preference for the pricing options we are putting in place. Our decision positions Royal Plantation among its peers in the Caribbean.”

Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica, will be converted to offer two different stay plans, both offering a cashless, carefree stay experience.

A European Plan (EP) will offer rates that include accommodations with continental breakfast, use of tennis courts, golf transfers, government taxes and service charges. A new Royal Plan (RP), the all-inclusive option, will include the above along with all food and beverage including select wines and afternoon tea; in-suite bars; tennis lessons; use of on-site meeting rooms; green fees; and water sports including diving, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, canoes, kayaks and glass bottomed boats.  Services and treatments at the property’s Royal Spa remain additional for all guests.

The new stay plan options maintain the carefree nature of the resort, with still no need to carry cash or credit cards by installing a check signing policy in the hotel’s three dining rooms, three bars and lounges, as well as in Room Service and for water sports. To support the property-wide changes, staff training has begun and Point of Sale (POS) systems will be installed.

Beginning July 1, valid until Dec. 19, 2004, rates for EP plan guests begin at $320 and range by room category to $600, per room per night, based on single or double occupancy; From Dec. 20, 2004 to Mar. 31, 2004, rates range from $450 to $840. RP rates increase rates by $160 per person, per night.

Other property-wide changes include the inauguration of a gratuities program, wherein guests signing checks can agree to an optional 15 percent service charge, which can be further supplemented, reduced or even removed; airport transfers only included for special packages.

Quietly elegant and perched on a hilltop overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica is a stylish and luxurious British Colonial-inspired 77-suite hideaway set on 17 lush acres of exquisitely manicured tropical gardens. Built almost five decades ago with classic Caribbean style, this historically rich and recently renewed oceanfront property has recaptured the subdued grace of days gone by and installed a level of time-honored genuine Jamaican service that evokes its roots.

Outstanding accommodations include a lavish, three-room villa and all suites boast stunning ocean views, most with balconies featuring sweeping vistas that feature the property's two private beaches. Idyllic amenities include a well-appointed, tranquil spa featuring botanical and indigenous products and specialized

treatments; butler service; dining options including exotic and refined seafood, a caviar bar, inspired casual al fresco dining, flambé, or utterly relaxed beachfront grilled fare; daily entertainment and interesting excursions; as well as recreation opportunities including nearby golf, on-site tennis and a fitness facility.

Seven categories of deluxe suites feature custom-crafted mahogany furniture, king-size beds, individually controlled air conditioning, ceiling fans, data ports, 24-hour room service, private bath and separate shower, lap-top accommodating safes and satellite TV, VCR and CD players.

JAIME STEWART

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Excelling in the travel industry is an inherited gene in the Stewart family.  At age of six, Jaime Stewart, daughter of Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart began her career in Sandals and Beaches Resorts mailroom.  Today, she’s turned her industry passion to a new role: Managing Director, Royal Plantation Ocho Rios, Jamaica – the first in a new line of small, elegant resorts.

Raised in Jamaica and educated at Boston University, Stewart was an instrumental, hands-on force in the $10 million renovation and restoration project that rejuvenated the 77-suite luxury hotel in 2001. Her contagious enthusiasm has helped drive open a new market for luxury boutique travel to Jamaica.

“I see Royal Plantation as a restoration project – when the property opened its doors in 1957 every corridor and crevice of this charming, chateau exuded elegance. Impeccable Jamaican service paired with luxurious plantation living were reason enough for guests to return year after year. Today, the property still greets each guest with the same unmistakable charm and elegance. My passion today is in merging Royal Plantation’s nostalgic days of old, with the modern luxuries of today’s superior hotels, making Royal Plantation the Caribbean’s finest, elite retreat.” Stewart enthuses.

Stewart has held various international roles that have exposed her to all facets of the company business – from sales, marketing, public relations, and reservations. She helped create the SPF (Single Parent Fun) program in 2003, attracting the burgeoning single parent market to Beaches Resorts. She plans to develop Dragon Bay Resort in Port Antonio, Jamaica, the second in the boutique resort group, slated to open in late 2005.
